International Zero Waste Month Opening Salvo: #RefuseSingleUse
Calling policymakers and businesses to eliminate the use and production of single-use plastics, GAIA member Mother Earth Foundation Philippines led a flash mob at the heart of one of the Philippines’ largest commercial center.
As a product of fossil fuels, plastic is one of the main drivers for the climate crises. Continued plastic production and consumption heats up global climate temperatures, depletes our resources, intoxicates the environment and creates public health issues, feeds incinerators, and chokes landfills and oceans.
The flash mob, participated by environmentalists and various Zero Waste youth groups, demanded that enough is enough. As the opening salvo of the International Zero Waste Month (IZWM), GAIA together with its members and allies, reiterated their commitment to a thriving global movement that puts an end to unsustainable production and waste pollution.
