Towards Zero Waste in Sports
A film by Red de Acción por los Derechos Ambientales (RADA)
Running Time: 6:37
Towards Zero Waste in Sports is a project executed by the RED DE ACCIÓN POR LOS DERECHOS AMBIENTALES (RADA), for the implementation of the Zero Waste strategy at the community level. It was implemented from 2017 to 2018 during Campos Deportivos de Temuco and produced excellent results.
More than fifty families participated in this project, making home compost and separating recyclable materials to deliver them to the grassroots recycler Elisa Millanao, who collects them every two weeks. The families who participated in the project reduced between 70 to 80% of the waste that is taken out for final disposal via garbage truck.
This is the strategy promoted by the RADA. For its implementation at the community and municipal level: a differentiated door-to-door collection of recyclable and compostable materials and treatment in a composting plant, and the conditioning of recyclable materials, reduces the final disposal by more than 70%, likewise reducing the environmental, social and economic costs of waste management, generating environmental and social benefits, and creating a future with hope for current and future generations.
